Handmade Books Hardbound covers

I came across Rhonda Miller’s blog My Handbound Books and am so amazed at the variety and excellence of her books. She lives in Nova Scotia and was interviewed on etsy here. She is a librarian who has been creating books for six years. I’ve included a few samples of her work below

This beautiful hardcover book was made using the covers of old sketch books for the cover and for each signature and to make the face continue down the spine. Also, the spine is chain stitched, which I’d like to learn how to do.

I love the idea of the raised image on a hardcover, this book looks to have been made with yarn, but you could also use bookboard in a shape or some other hard shape.

Finally, I really like the effect of what she calls thong binding, which creates the lovely spine bands on these journals. Really beautiful books.
